Already while being a member of the Opéra de Lyon opera-studio in season 2019/20 Margot Genet appeared in a production of Ravels L’enfant et les sortilèges (singing the parts of The Fire, The Princess, The Nightingale and others) joining performances at the Opéra de Lyon as well as on tour to the Muscat Royal Opera House (Oman). She also sang the role of Giovanna in Verdi’s Ernani under Daniele Rustioni’s baton at the Lyon Auditorium, at the Vichy Opera and at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.
Born in Limoges (France) in 1994 the soprano took vocal and cello-lessons in her home-town before pursuing her studies at the Geneva Haute Ecole de Musique (taking a bachelor-degree) and as from 2019 at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK Berlin, acquiring her Master in Opera Performance degree in Elisabeth Werres’ class recently). She has also taken part in master-classes with singers like Helen Donath, Hedwig Fassbender, Elène Golgevit, Regina Werner and Ludovic Tézier.
During her studies she already performed in staged productions of L'incoronazione di Poppea (Drusilla), Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna), La Voix Humaine (Elle) and The Turn of the Screw (Flora).
Having been an award-winner within the Competition of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg (2017) and having received a Hamel-stipendium (2016), the soprano with the « silvery top-register » (source: www.olyrix.com) also attracted attention when joining the « Concours Jeunes Espoirs de l’Opéra Grand Avignon » (2015) and the « Concours Corneille, concours International de Musique Baroque » (2019).
In concert she appeared recently at the Festival de l'Abbaye de Sylvanès (Fauré-Requiem), at the Festival 1001 Notes as well as within the Würzburg Mozart Festival, singing songs by Aribert Reimann in the composer’s presence. She is ardently devoted to contemporary music and performed the world-premiere of Alexander Muno’s « Four Epitaphs by Nelly Sachs » accompanied by Axel Bauni at the Hamburg Academy of Arts, a concert dedicated to the woman poet.
Since 2016 she performs frequently throughout Europe with the pianist Justine Eckhaut, most recently within one of the concerts of the « Amici del Loggione del Teatro alla Scala ». The duo’s wide repertory includes music by Mozart, Schubert, Debussy and Messiaen. Personalities like David Selig, Eric Schneider and Sarah Tysman are supporting the two young artists.
